Ultimate Strategy: 2011 Championship Game: The first point »

ultimatestrategy:

The 2011 Open Championship was the one everybody wanted to see: undefeated Ironside against the reigning champion, Revolver.

I’m going to start this blog by breaking that game down, point by point, to try and look at how each team planned and executed their strategies in the biggest game of them…

This is pretty awesome - an analysis of the first point of last year’s Open championships between Ironside and Revolver. The O point was only four passes long and maybe twenty or thirty seconds, but there was a lot more happening than I realized. I’m really excited about reading through this series.

As far as I’m aware there’s not much available in the way of high level analysis of ultimate other than what I’ve been able to discern on my own through my severely limited personal experience. I find the strategy of ultimate along with actively teaching and learning it to be a crucial part of my development, so this is pretttty sweet. It looks like it’s written by Bill Mill, as he’s claimed ownership of it over on r/ultimate? :)

Slightly related, they’ve limited viewing the vimeo of the game from only that particular domain, so you can’t do anything cool like link directly to when the first point starts at approx 6m 20s. You’ll just have to watch it there and click to that time. Bummer =/
